A minha colcha é a mais linda de todas

O que é reconfortante no meu hobby é achar sempre que a última peça que criei é a mais linda de todas.
Como já vos tinha falado, tive este charm pack distribuído no chão do atelier durante algum tempo, veio uma rabanada de vento e alterou toda a disposição. Num dia em que estava mesmo a precisar de me abstrair da vida real, voltei a reconstruir o padrão, não pensando se ficaria igual, mas apenas porque o que saísse no momento era o que eu queria eternizar.
Há algumas maneiras mais práticas de não perderem um padrão de patchwork. Uma delas é fotografar os retalhos como cábula.
A minha colcha "Briar Rose" de Heather Ross está pronta. Mede 1,20 por 1,40, e tem um maravilhoso enchimento de bambú.
Olhar para ele, para as suas cores, recorda-me os dias mais alegres da minha vida.

Um dia de sol entre muitos de chuva

Tenho este quilt em cima da mesa há tanto tempo! Hoje, no dia em que recarregámos baterias num inusitado sol de inverno, lancei-me a ele. 

Este quilt vai ter as dimensões ideais para um berço, como tapete de brincadeiras, como decoração de parede ou até para dar um ar mais cosy ao cadeirão da sala: 120 cm por 140 cm.

É construído por tecidos muito coloridos e que cheiram a Verão: sapinhos, abelhas, borboletas, morangos e muitas, muitas flores. Estes tecidos pertencem à colecção que Heather Ross criou para a Windham Fabrics, e que se chama Briar Rose.

Cortado, cosido, enchimento de bambu e quiltagem a direito, o único tipo que a minha máquina com o seu novo pé calcador consegue fazer. Amanhã há mais!

Tilda's Quilt

Finally, my friends quilt is ready. It was quite difficult to do it, because the fabrics were Tilda vintage and some of them were already hand sewn.
As my working table is a little, it was also hard to manage the machine. I had to put an armchair to help, but at the end it worked just fine. The back is one simple white linnen quilt from Ikea.
This is my biggest quilt, it measures 2,40 X 1,40 cm. I only have done them for children. It was quite a gratifying experience! To repeat, for sure!

Quilt WIP

A parte de frente está pronta. A parte de trás vai ser uma colcha de algodão branca do Ikea. Falta o enchimento - que será uma mistura de bambu e algodão, e o "binding" - que é uma espécie de viés que junta as três camadas e que gostava muito de fazer à mão.

The front part is ready. The back will be a white cotton quilt from Ikea. I still have to bast it - which will be a blend of bamboo and cotton, and "binding" - which is a kind of bias that joins the three layers and I loved to do it by hand sewing.

Que Santa Catarina me inspire!

Tenho em mãos um trabalho arqueológico de construção/reconstrução de um quilt. O quilt foi iniciado pela mãe de uma grande amiga e, entretanto, foi esquecido. Quando a minha amiga viu o quilt e as peças que faltavam coser, e arranjar, lembrou-se de mim. É algo absolutamente precioso. Todos os tecidos são Tilda, alguns vintage e há muito trabalho a fazer de reconstrução.

Os quadrados uns estão cosidos à máquina, outros alinhavados e nunca ficará um quilt perfeito. Vou juntar numa bolsa as melhores ferramentas, a melhor linha e vou pôr-me a cosê-lo à mão. Só usarei a máquina para o acolchoar, depois do patchwork feito. São 2,40 mt por 1,35. Haja boas sestas cá em casa nos próximos dias e eu serei uma mulher feliz.
Para o verso, vou usar um clássico vichy, algodão orgânico, do americano Michael Miller. Queria em rosa, mas vai demorar quase um mês a chegar. Vou estudando alternativas. Se fosse meu, colocava o verso em ganga para ficar pesado e quente no Inverno/fresco no Verão. Assim, bastava um enchimento 100% algodão ou bambu. A equacionar.
Este quilt é um dos trabalhos que mais responsabilidade me coloca em cima, ao qual vou dedicar todo o amor e respeito por quem o iniciou e especialmente para quem o vai receber.

I have in hands an archaeological work of construction / reconstruction of a quilt. The quilt was started by the mother of a good friend, and yet was forgotten. When my friend saw the quilt and the missing pieces, remembered me. It's something absolutely precious. All fabrics are Tilda, some vintage and there is much work to do on the reconstruction.

Some square are machine stitched and others only basted. This will never be one perfect quilt. I'll join in a bag the best tools, the best thread and I'll bring myself to sew it by hand. I will only use the machine for quilting, after the patchwork is done. It measures 2.40 meters by 1.35. With good baby naps around here in the coming days I will be a happy woman.

For the back, I'll use a classic Vichy, organic cotton, from Michael Miller. Wanted in pink, but it will take almost a month to arrive. Studying alternatives. If it were mine, I will put choose the back in denim as it gets heavy and warm in winter / cool in summer. And it will be enough a batting of 100% cotton or bamboo. 

This quilt is a work that puts more responsibility on me, to which I will devote all the love and respect for who initiated and especially for those who will receive.

Uma manta especial // A very special quilt

Fazer mantas de retalhos é uma actividade completamente viciante. Esta mantinha é a quarta deste mês e deu-me um gozo especial a fazer. Para além de ser maior, pois tem 70 x 100 cm, é uma junção louca de dois designers de tecidos de minha eleição: Amy Butler e Moda Fabrics. Como se a confusão já não fosse pouca, juntei-lhe no verso um tecido do Michael Miller e decorei-a com os meus hexágonos. Estou a vê-la numa cadeira de baloiço. Na Alemanha, que é para onde vai seguir viagem :)

Making patchwork quilts is a completely addictive activity. This quilt is the fourth of this month and gave me a special joy to do. In addition to being higher, it has 70 x 100 cm, it is a mad junction of two of my elected fabric designers: Amy Butler and Moda Fabrics. As if the confusion was no longer little, I joined on the back of the quilt a Michael Miller fabric and decorated it with my hexagons. I'm seeing her in a rocking chair. In Germany, which is where it goes :)

A vida pela frente

Não sei muito bem para quem vou fazer esta manta, mas imagino-a em cima da relva verde, por debaixo de uma árvore, com um bebé em cima, rodeado de brinquedos, pernas ao léu, e a vida toda pela frente.

I'm not sure whom I´m goig to make this blanket for, but I imagine it over the green grass, under a tree, with a baby on top, surrounded by toys, bare legs, and whole life ahead.

Retalhos de tranquilidade

Estas mantas de retalhos que brevemente estarão à venda numa loja bem catita têm sido os meus companheiros preferidos. Estou a descobrir, dentro desta actividade que adoro, o que me tranquiliza, o que me maravilha. Coser retalhos é uma actividade de paciência. Cortar, conjugar, alinhavar, coser, abrir bainhas, coser novamente, escolher enchimentos e versos, alinhavar tudo novamente, coser, fazer fita de viés à mão, alinhavar, coser, coser novamente... Está-me a fazer tão, tão bem!
